What Is CTR (Click-Through Rate)?

CTR is the percentage of impressions (times YouTube showed your thumbnail) that turned into views. Typical channels sit between 2% and 10%; under 3% with healthy retention signals a packaging problem, over 6% usually means strong title and thumbnail fit with the market. CTR decays as impressions broaden (YouTube shows your video to colder audiences), so judge it against your own baseline, not a universal number. CTR and retention work as a pair: CTR earns the click, retention earns the next impression.

Why it matters for faceless channels

Faceless channels have no recognizable face in the thumbnail, so packaging carries the entire click decision. See the packaging fixes in why channels fail.
