What Are Impressions?
An impression is counted each time a video's thumbnail is displayed on YouTube for longer than one second, on the home feed, search results, suggested videos, or subscriptions (external embeds don't count). Impressions are the top of the creator funnel: impressions × CTR = views. Rising impressions with flat views means CTR is falling; flat impressions with rising CTR means the algorithm hasn't widened distribution yet, usually a retention constraint.
Why it matters for faceless channels
The impressions → CTR → retention chain is the diagnostic order for any stalled video. Full diagnostic: channel failure patterns.
